High Performance Coach

Phyllis is a NCCP Level 3 certified coach with a UBC Bachelor of Arts degree, graduate certificate in the UBC High Performance Coaching and Technical Leadership Program and Advanced Coaching Diploma. She is part of the Canadian coaching pool and has worked with Team Canada at the 2018 Thomas and Uber Cup Preliminaries and 2017 Junior Pan American Championships. Phyllis has also coached the Team BC badminton team at the 2015, 2019 and 2023 Canada Winter Games. Her playing career highlights include 2016 US Open Grand Prix Gold Mixed Doubles semi-finalist, 2012 Pan American Championship Women’s Doubles champion, 3 times Canadian National champion and member of Team Canada for the 2016 Pan American Games, 2014 Commonwealth Games, and numerous editions of the World Championships, Sudirman and Uber Cup.

High Performance Coach

Eric is a NCCP Level 2 certified coach and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and minor in Psychology. He specializes in badminton conditioning to minimize injuries. Eric has a broad range of coaching experience from working with grassroot players developing foundational skills to elite Canadian National team members.

The goal of the coaching program is to produce high level competitive players based on the philosophy of self-discipline, perseverance and hard work.  As an athlete, he trained in a team in Taiwan and was shocked when he realized how individualized the training was in Canada.  Eric discovered that this individualism made it harder for athletes to stay motivated to train so he established a competitive and cooperative training environment that teaches players how to strategically solve problems so that they can excel on and off court in a professional manner.

Sing Wai is a Hong Kong certified coach who has been trained to lead classes specifically targeting the junior competitive level. He was the badminton coach for the Fukien Secondary School for almost a decade until he moved overseas to pursue a coaching career in Canada. Sing’s playing career highlights include:

Fundamentals Lead Coach

Jadis is a Hong Kong Badminton Association gold award certified coach. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreational Management from the Hong Kong Baptist University. She started coaching at the Ching Badminton Club from 2014 and specializes in working with younger athletes and developing fundamental skills. In addition to her expertise in badminton, she is also a Level 1 USA Track and Field and competitive skipping rope certified coach which is very helpful in improving body coordination and conditioning. Her playing career in Hong Kong included results such as:
